A note from the founder

My off-grid and survival experience isn't a hobby I picked up — it's how I was raised. From childhood, I was trained in survival, self-reliance, and the outdoors by my father, a Green Beret and Army Special Forces (Airborne) veteran. We lived off-grid — heating and cooking with wood and propane, hauling our own water, lighting the house with oil lamps — and I grew up hunting, fishing, camping, and learning real skills like overland navigation and escape and evasion. That was my life for seventeen years.

I've spent every decade since living it, refining it, and sharing it. Fifteen years ago I began writing about off-grid living. Twelve years ago I launched the Off Grid Living magazine, and five years ago I grew it into Off Grid Living & Survival and founded our community. In that time I've published millions of words of real, field-tested off-grid knowledge — systems, designs, and hard-won lessons — and helped millions of people begin their own journey. My work is published across the internet, and it speaks for itself.
